ET and Divorced Parents

For the first time in many years I saw the movie ET. I remembered “ET phone home” and the kids on flying bicycles. But I had forgotten how much of the plot revolved around the boy dealing with his divorced parents. I not sure what made me check, but I found out why that played so prominently. According to Wikipedia, “the concept for E.T. was based on an imaginary friend Spielberg created after his parents’ divorce in 1960.” I think Stephen Spielberg captured some of the divorce dynamics pretty well.
